Becoming a Volunteer
Sierra Vista Child & Family Services offers two choices of volunteer giving:
Event volunteers will learn what Sierra Vista does and how Sierra Vista makes a difference in the community. Event volunteers don't have interaction with Sierra Vista programs or clients. Event volunteers can serve on a committee, help organize events, and work on service projects. The first step in becoming an event volunteer is to fill out the volunteer application. Once you have filled out the application, call our Human Resources Department at (209) 523-4573 to set up an appointment to discuss how you would like to give through volunteering your time.
Sierra Vista Child & Family Services also has the need for volunteers in our programs. These volunteers can perform tasks that include tutoring children in a group home, assisting staff with a children's social skills group, or working with women in the perinatal treatment program. Because this type of volunteer can come into contact with clients, Sierra Vista must ensure the safety of the clients through several screening processes. These screening processes include:
- TB testing
- References checked
- Background check through FBI, Department of Justice
These screening procedures are done at no cost to the volunteer. In addition to the screening processes that are described above, the program volunteer will also review policies and procedures for legal compliance requirements. Because the screening process can sometimes take a couple of weeks, volunteers are put into an introductory volunteer position that does not have contact with clients or programs until the screenings are complete. The first step in becoming a program volunteer is to fill out the volunteer application. Once you have filled out the application, call our Human Resources Department at (209) 523-4573 to set up an appointment to discuss how you would like to give through volunteering your time.
